Chinnakanal Waterfalls


Chinnakanal or Power House waterfalls is located 18 kilometers away from Munnar. Here the water pours down from a height of over 800m, forming snow-white fall that splashes on rocks and hillocks. The origin of this beautiful waterfall, surrounded by green mountain ranges, is from the River Devikulam. The river got its name from the legend that Sita Devi, wife of Lord Rama has taken a dip in this river. The uniqueness of Chinnakanal waterfalls is the green nature around, which attracts tourists from all over the world. The surrounding green plantations give a classic look to the waterfalls.

Falling through a steep rock from a height of about 800 feet, this cascading waterfall is a wonderful place to spend few hours. It is one of the best waterfalls in Munnar. Misty hill tops, mountains, streams with cool chilly water, etc. are also attractions. Having all these, your Journey to Chinnakanal waterfalls will always remain a highly pleasing one. There is a natural pool at bottom of the falls.


There are many renowned tourist locations in and around Chinnakanal Waterfalls. They include hill stations like Marayur, Neriamangalam, Adimali, Top Station Munnar, waterfalls like Kurangani waterfalls, Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks like Iravikulam national park and Chinnar Wildlife sanctuary, and many others. Pallivasal Dam and Hydro-electric Power Station, Muthirappuzha River, Devikulam Lake is also nearby.


Best time to visit the falls is during post monsoon season. October to February is ideal months for enjoying various attractions  here . November is enjoyable time for tourist activities like trekking and mountaineering in near the places of hills.

 March to october is good time to explore Chinnakanal and visiting tea estates. It is possible to reach the bottom of the falls by trekking down the hills. Swimming in the pool at bottom of the falls is a memorable experience.
